The mulching: the advantages it allows and the methods
The waste deriving from pruning and cleaning the garden (twigs, leaves and weeds, as well as cut grass) can be thrown in special bins or used for mulching and composting: in this way, the vegetable remains they are ground and used to fertilize the soil. This process makes it possible to maintain a high level of eco-sustainability and a low environmental impact in the garden, avoiding the use of chemical fertilizers. We often limit ourselves to simple shredding, as it is more practicable in terms of space and management. In fact, composting is very difficult to achieve in small or medium areas such as a garden or a terrace. The shredding operation is carried out through the use of suitable instruments and, among these, the most widespread are branch shredders.
The shredders: their purpose and their functioning
The shredder rami is extremely silent: technological advances have made it possible to improve the performance of the devices and to reduce the noise level, both of the electric and of the petrol ones. For example, some electric shredders emit only 84 decibels. The operation of the shredders is extremely practical: their function is to remedy the problems of organic garden waste disposal. In fact, by shredding the pruned twigs and other waste such as cut flowers, twigs and leaves of shrubs, bushes or hedges, a bio material is made that decomposes easily and can be used in mulching. Once they have been shredded and mixed together, simply aerate them (because they receive enough oxygen) and spread them on the garden soil. This fertile humus will easily mix and integrate the soil with nutrients and bioelements (especially in flower beds and pots).
The technical features of the shredders
Shredders are really useful tools for the ecological management of your garden. The various models found on the market do not have a very high cost and are offered in many versions. Most of them are simple and very light, characterized by a high level of safety. The only contraindication to use is that also the shredder smaller branches is a bit bulky: therefore it needs a certain space both to be used and to be placed in the tool shed. The fertilizer obtained by using the shredders has a higher level of quality and intervention the more plant residues containing nitrogen and carbon are combined. The shredders employ various shredding techniques (ranging from knife cylinders to rollers with cutters) and various power levels. In this way various operations can be put into practice, from defibration (in which soft wood or leaves are unraveled), to chipping (for pieces of wood or bark), up to the actual shredding, which may be more or less less fine.
Branch shredder: The common features of branch shredders
Some shredders can treat only thin branches of shrubs and hedges, leaves and grass, while others can also grind branches with a diameter of 45 mm. In addition, some devices are multi-functional, as they can both crush and chop the inserted organic material. It is advisable, however, to ensure that the compound obtained is ground in a rather fine manner. Typically, loading the material into the branches shredder it takes place automatically, through an oblique funnel or straight. Almost all the shredders are equipped with a system to reverse the direction of rotation: in this way, any organic residues that get stuck can be easily removed. They are also equipped with wheels and handles to move easily on any type of terrain. Furthermore, the safety systems consist of systems to block the engine and to prevent the material from escaping.
