The clover meadow does not need particular attention from the point of view of the water supply. Obviously, as soon as it is sown it will need to receive constant and regular irrigations, without ever exaggerating with the quantity. It would be advisable to install a nebulizer on the watering can to avoid a too large jet that could cause the seeds to move in the ground. We will periodically verify that the earth does not dry completely becoming dry. When the lawn is properly developed it will not be necessary to intervene in support, especially during the seasons characterized by good rainfall. If instead the atmospheric precipitations were not enough, we will operate an artificial irrigation by hand or with a fixed plant. The best time is the evening after sunset or early morning.
How to take care of it
The clover meadow manages to develop well even spontaneously. We can buy a bag of seeds following the instructions on the label for the quantity needed to cover the area we want to sow. We will mix a little soil with the seeds, so as not to distribute too many and then we will cover with a layer of earth. The clover should also hide the irregularities of the soil making it uniform in appearance. Obviously to achieve this the garden will be treated with care, especially in spring when the grass grows more. Normally the clover should not develop in height but to maintain a perfect lawn it is necessary to intervene at least once every 15 days cutting the grass. In the other seasons it will be necessary to cut the lawn only if necessary. We will periodically verify the presence of weeds by pulling them out by hand.
The ideal terrain
To create a perfect clover garden it is necessary to have a regular area of land, without holes or valleys. In preparation we will try to work the soil even in depth, to get a well-draining substrate. If necessary we will be able to add some sand covering it with other earth. It is important that atmospheric precipitations, even when they are abundant, flow completely without forming puddles that would ruin the appearance of the garden. It is not necessary to fertilize with particular products and, if the area is quite fertile, we can simply go directly to the sowing operations. To keep the lawn tidy it is advisable to install tiles or walkways, so as to avoid grass being walked on.
Clover: Climate and adversity
The clover grows both in the positions exposed to the direct rays of the sun for a good part of the day, and in the half-shade places. We can sow and successfully maintain a clover meadow at all latitudes of Italy, both in coastal areas and at hill heights. There are no particular problems related to winter temperatures and the clover will resist well, giving new and luxuriant vegetation the following spring. There are varieties of clover that produce flowers of different colors. The nurseryman will also be able to advise us regarding the aesthetic aspect. It should not be necessary to use pesticides and insects should not cause damage to our clover. The only adversity is represented by the intense heat, so it is better to constantly water it during the summer season.
